Major technical parameters Work grade: I. 6 large electrical pumping stations including Coc Thanh, Co Dam, Huu Bi, Nhu Trac, Nham Trang, Vinh Tri with 35 OP6-87, OP6-145 pumps, capacity of 1 pump is from 11,000 m3/h - 32,000 m3/h. Project results Total cultivation area: 63,366 ha, increasing in paddy equivalent production from 145,700 ton (in 1965) to 302,476 ton (in 1990). Average food per capita is increased from 150 kg to 400 kg. Scale of the project items The project basin is the largest low-lying delta belonging to Ha Nam and Nam Dinh provinces with total area of 85,326 ha surrounded by Red river in the northeast, Day river in the west and Dao river in the southeast. Topography of the basin is complicated with alternating high-low elevation, many hollow areas, interlaced ponds, lakes, rivers and streams. The project basin characteristic is the typical one of low-lying area in the Northern delta. In 6 pumping stations of the project, there are 5 irrigation, drainage pumping stations and 1 drainage pumping station. The canal system consists of 18 irrigation canals with length of 133 km, 18 drainage area with length of 173 km, 3219 secondary and tertiary irrigation and drainage canals with total length of 3585 km.
